The award-winning Hong Kong-based Asian Youth Orchestra, recipient of Japan’s Praemium Imperiale and Nikkei Asia Prize, is counted “amongst the finest youth orchestra in the world.” (San Francisco Chronicle) AYO musicians are selected every year through a rigorous audition process. The orchestra’s more than 100 members represent mainland China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Macau, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. They are together for six weeks, initially for a three-week Rehearsal Camp, then performing on a three-week international tour with renowned conductors and soloists. Since its inaugural performance in 1990, the Orchestra has played over 400 concerts in Asia, Europe, the United States and Australia to audiences of over one million. Millions more have seen and heard the orchestra around the world on CNN, CNBC, NHK and Radio and Television Hong Kong. This year, the AYO will make its long-awaited return to Malaysia after 13 years for a spectacular concert, celebrating youth and cultural excellence!
