Liu Wenwen, China’s first doctorate student specialising in the suona, joins the MPO in its maiden performance featuring the double-reeded classical Chinese instrument. Be mesmerised as Liu and the MPO serenade with a traditional Chinese folk tune titled Hundred Birds Worshipping the Phoenix arranged by Gong Guotai, and the richly melodious Kong Zhixuan Ode to Kylin. The concert opens with the highly-acclaimed Crouching Tiger Concerto by Tan Dun from Ang Lee’s award-winning film, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon before music from another martial arts film, Flying Dragon Leaping Tiger, entertains concertgoers. Don’t miss this rare culturally spellbinding concert by the MPO.
