Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini is an ingenious whirlwind of musical styles and forms – a virtuosic tour de force for piano with 24 variations inspired by the last of Paganini’s famously difficult caprices and performed by pianist Lilya Zilberstein. Beethoven’s visceral 7th symphony features dancing rhythms, a melancholic Allegretto, and the powerful momentum of its gripping finale.
